I have been contacting churches in the Luton / Dunstable area to share more about the ministry of Operation Christmas Child. If this is a project the Churches Together would be interested in learning more about I would be delighted to come share more. Please find below a little more information and how it could look in your community.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organisation. We seek to show God’s love in a tangible way through shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease around the world. Working with local church partners and volunteers in each country who understand the communities they serve, we aim to equip them to reach out and distribute the gifts in safe organised events. At the same time, we do seek to share the Gospel wherever we go and where we are not permitted to distribute literature we are still grateful for the opportunity to bless the children with gift boxes carefully prepared by people like you. After the children attend an event they are invited to enrol on The Greatest Journey, with their parents / guardians permission, a 12 lesson discipleship course which shares the good news of Jesus. Through The Greatest Journey, our local ministry partners are able to establish long-term, caring relationships with children and their families and as a result we have seen God’s Kingdom grow and new churches planted.
Last year, our Christmas project gave excitement and hope to 10.6 million children living in difficult circumstances in over 100 countries. A simple shoebox gift let them know they’re loved and not forgotten by our supporters and by God.
But it’s more than that:
Builds links in YOUR community
Packing shoeboxes is also a great way of doing mission here in the UK. Inviting your local community to pack OCC shoeboxes is fun and welcomes friends and neighbours into the life and other activities of your church.
Invites to Jesus
A child receives an Operation Christmas Child shoebox through one of over 75,000 local churches who also share the good news of life and hope in Jesus in a child friendly way. Last year over two million children discovered Jesus for themselves through The Greatest Journey Bible course that local churches offer as a follow-up to receiving a shoebox.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should speak the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” 1 Pet. 4:10-11
