Stepping Stones Luton is looking for more people to sit on the Board of Trustees
Women who are on probation come to Stepping Stones, or who may be under threat of having their children removed, or have mental ill-health, addictions, have suffered domestic abuse or who just self-refer because they know they can no longer manage without help, whatever their need. At the initiation of the Police and Crime Commissioner we also support women in Bedfordshire in contact with criminal justice agencies or on the margins of criminality who are required to undertake mandatory sessions at Stepping Stones and thus avoid a criminal record. We offer therapeutic interventions, group and one to one work, and help with the many demands of modern living. It is not an easy ride and our clients who emerge after maybe months of learning to deal with their problems, are often full of praise for the service they have received and the changes in their lives.
Their children are a particular focus for us, in our Ofsted approved childcare facility where the kids experience warmth, acceptance and fun filled sessions, as their mums attend parenting training, and learn to give the emotional support they themselves may have lacked. These children will soon grow and become parents; they need to have good experiences to build on.
Our Board of Trustees are all volunteers, meeting about 4 times a year. We have top rate managers and team. But the Board is small and we would love to welcome others to come and help. Have you got skills you could offer: financial, media/PR, campaigning/lobbying, fundraising, health and safety or marketing? Or would you just like to come along and support us?
Please get in touch. If you care about stemming the flow of violence towards women, we could use your enthusiasm.
