A lady from one of our member churches is inspired to make a community quilt and is looking for people to join her. Please see below and reply to Sophia if you are interested.
Throughout history, many have found comfort and solace in difficult times by creating fibre art as a community. I love how in scripture, God instructs the people to build a tabernacle which would He would dwell in among the people, and am particularly interested in the use of images which would remind the people of how Yahweh stretched out His mighty hand and saved them, and His promise to unite and lead all nations back to Eden. Filled with the spirit, the people worshipped and rejoiced as they embroidered the tabernacle curtains. In times such as these, it’s important for us to bring and see bringing communities in which we enable everyone to worship in various forms, including through art. I’d love to meet as a community to produce a “banner of His love”; a large quilt consisting of individual squares that have been decorated using various types of media on fabric that can be installed and shared between churches as a testimony of God and what He has done for us. Only basic sewing skills will be needed as there is also the option to paint on fabric, but I will happily support those who wish to learn to sew and embroider.
