About us
One town,
many churches,
one family
Churches Together in Luton has been bringing congregations across the town into the same room since 1990. Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal and independent, praying together, working together, and knowing one another by name.
Who we are
An ecumenical body, in plain terms
Churches Together in Luton was founded in 1990, the same year as its parent body. Ecumenical is a long word for a simple idea: churches of different traditions choosing to talk to one another rather than past one another.
In practice that means Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and most Protestant churches sitting at the same table. Not agreeing on everything, because they do not, but agreeing that a town is better served by churches that know each other than by churches that do not.
We keep the Luton Churches Directory, we pray for the town, we pass on what is happening, and we point people towards the congregation nearest to them.
What we do
Four things, done properly
Small in number, and each one useful to somebody in Luton this week.
The churches directory
Every congregation we know of in Luton, with service times, who to speak to and how to get there. Kept current rather than left to rot.

Anybody can ask, whether they go to church or not. A small team from churches across the town prays, and what you write goes no further.
Ask for prayerOrganisations and ministries
Food, debt advice, youth work, refugee support and more. The Christian organisations working in Luton, and what each one actually does.
See who is working hereEvents across the town
Shared services, prayer mornings, carol events and everything in between, from whichever church happens to be hosting.
What is coming upNews worth passing on
Jobs, appeals, training, and the things churches need to hear about from one another rather than from the newspaper.
Being one body
Underneath all of it, the ordinary work of knowing the minister down the road well enough to pick up the phone.
Who to speak to
The people behind it
Churches Together in Luton is run by people from the churches themselves. If you are not sure who to ask, start with either of these two.
The wider family
Part of something national
Luton is one town among many doing the same thing. CTL belongs to two bodies that hold it all together.
Churches Together in England
The national body CTL is a member of. It draws together churches across England, and it is through CTE that a local group like ours is recognised as part of the wider picture.
Visit CTE CTBIChurches Together in Britain and Ireland
Set up in 1990 and funded by the churches themselves, with more than thirty member churches covering the full spread of Christianity across these islands. Formerly the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland.
Visit CTBISafeguarding
Churches Together in Luton has a safeguarding policy covering how we look after children and adults at risk in anything we run. If you have a concern about somebody's safety, raise it with the safeguarding lead at the church involved, and in an emergency call 999.
Come and find us
Whichever church you end up in, you are welcome in all of them
Whether you are new to Luton, new to church, or have been here longer than any of us, there is a congregation near you and somebody in it glad you turned up.
