Accessibility Statement
This site is for everybody in Luton, which means it has to work for people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, need larger text or find movement difficult.
What we aim for
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, at level AA. Churches Together in Luton is not a public body, so the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not apply to us. We follow the same standard because it is the right way to build a site for a whole town.
What has been done
- Headings are used in order, so a screen reader can move through a page by structure
- Every interactive element can be reached and used with a keyboard alone
- Skip links let you jump straight to the main content or the footer
- Text colours are chosen to meet the contrast levels the guidelines set
- Text resizes when you zoom, and layouts reflow rather than breaking
- Animation is switched off for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion
- Form fields have real labels, and errors are announced rather than shown only in colour
- Images that carry meaning have text alternatives, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers
Where we know we fall short
The site has not had an independent accessibility audit. We are not aware of any part of it that cannot be used, but we have not tested every page with every assistive technology, and we would rather say so than claim otherwise.
Documents and websites belonging to other organisations are outside our control. If a church or organisation we link to publishes a PDF that is difficult to read, we cannot fix it, though we are happy to pass your message on.
Telling us about a problem
If something on this site is hard to use, we want to hear about it. Tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do and what happened, along with the browser or assistive technology you use if you know it. Write to Sue Penn, Secretary, at ctl_admin@tiscali.co.uk, or use the contact form.
We are volunteers, so give us a few days to reply. If a fix is straightforward we will make it quickly. If it is larger we will tell you what we plan to do and roughly when.
If you need something in another format
Ask us and we will do what we reasonably can. That might mean sending information by email in plain text, reading it to you over the phone, or putting you in touch with the church or organisation directly.
