Dear All

In this 5th anniversary year since the start of the Covid pandemic, Newland Church on Crawley Green Road is holding a memorial service on 6th April from 3pm. This will be informal with tea and cake at tables as we share memories and offer prayers and reflections for our loved ones lost to the virus.

Each flower on the memorial represents a person lost in Luton between 2020 and 2023 when the government stopped publishing the figures for individual towns. It hung on the outside of the church in order that everyone could see, and one passer-by told us ‘My Dad’s on there’. Another resident (and Methodist member) who went to see it felt that one of the green flowers represented her husband with his love of gardening.

During the last year the flowers have been carefully removed and washed. They are being re-attached to the trellis and the renewed memorial will be dedicated during the event.

The church is then researching a permanent and weatherproof casing and when a suitable option and the funding have been found it will be remounted outside the church as a lasting memorial to those we loved and lost.

Do come and join us if it would be helpful to you and your loved ones.
